Has anyone actually purchase a repossessed car from Whelan Transport in Belfast?

Hi all,
Hope it’s okay to ask here, I’ve been searching for a newer car and came across a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid listed on Gumtree by Whelan Transport, based in Belfast and what caught my attention is the price it’s roughly £6000 under market value which immediately made me cautious. According to the listing, it’s a loan repossession, which would explain the discount but with the amount of scams going around lately, I’d rather check first.
Has anyone here actually bought a car from Whelan Transport, or dealt with them before? Any help would be great

I haven’t bought a car from them myself but I do know someone who is worked alongside their transport team on freight job and from what I’ve heard, they’re a long standing logistics company and only recently branched into repossessed vehicle sales through auction sources.

Not saying jump straight in but they’re definitely a real outfit not some pop-up page.

Personally I’d still be wary! Prices that far below average always ring alarm bells for me I’ve seen plenty of cases where people pay first and regret it later.
If they won’t allow a viewing or proper paperwork checks, I’d walk away.

I get the concern, @dave783. I did a bit of background digging myself after seeing one of their ads. Whelan Transport has been registered for years and shows up properly on Companies House. I also called their sales team out of curiosity and got a professional response which is more than you can say for a any scammers

Same here never heard of them until now but after looking around online, there seem to be quite a few independent mentions.
I’m not rushing into anything either, but so far it looks legitimate.

I actually flew over from Belfast last month to look at a Tucson Ultimate they had advertised. When I arrived, I was met by a guy called Brian, who walked me through the process and let me take the car out for a short drive. The unit is about 10 minutes from George Best Airport so it was easy enough. Sorted payment the same day.

Really glad I found this thread I am currently looking at a 2023 Volvo XC60 Whelan Transport got listed on eBay. I’ve checked their registration, reviews, even rang their office everything checks out. Still sending that kind of money before seeing the car in person definitely makes you hesitate.

I'd want to add another thought If I buy another car from them, I'll probably used their delivery option rather than flying over.

Quick update I’ve paid them this morning and everything looks straightforward so far.
Feeling a bit nervous now that it’s real, but also cautiously optimistic.

Morning everyone.
I bought a 2021 Peugeot 3008 from Whelan Transport about three weeks ago. I won’t lie making a bank transfer without seeing the car first was nerve-racking. But I spoke to their office several times and they explained everything clearly. Payment went into a segregated business account, and the car was prepared and checked before dispatch.
Delivery took 9 days, two days later than initially planned, but they kept me updated the whole time. Car arrived exactly as described.

Worth mentioning as well with the UK bank fraud protection rules, payments FPS are covered up to £85,000. It’s not something you want to rely on, but it does add an extra safety net when paying by bank transfer.

Final update from me the RAV4 was delivered to my workplace today and I’m absolutely over the moon with it. If anyone else is sitting on the fence about Whelan Transport, I can honestly say my experience has been spot on from start to finish.
