jimmy47785
Greetings to everyone, I have had my 2022 Sportage HEV for one month, and after a recent navigational failure that necessitated the use of my backup Garmin, I have concluded that my mapping requires an update. On my prior Sporty (MY2017), the process included downloading the update on an SD card, inserting it into the dashboard, then executing the installation. I recognised that this is a distinct process, so I researched it and downloaded the Kia update installer, subsequently obtaining the current map update using the installer onto a memory stick. Everything is satisfactory so far. However, I am now uncertain about the appropriate course of action. I understand that it must be connected to the central USB port and updated using the on-screen options; nevertheless... The instructions indicate that the installation process, which may take up to 30 minutes, requires the engine to be running to prevent battery depletion. Additionally, they caution that stopping and restarting the engine during installation may lead to various issues with the data due to voltage spikes and related factors. As the vehicle is a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the engine does not consistently activate upon pressing the start button until the battery requires recharging. Once charged, it will cease operation again, resulting in several start-stop cycles throughout the installation process. I am reluctant to proceed with the installation, since the potential start/stop of the engine may compromise its functionality, resulting in the full loss of the navigation system. Could someone who has performed such an upgrade confirm its safety before I go incorrectly?
Mistral
I successfully updated my HEV. The vehicle began in electric vehicle mode and thereafter alternated between electric and engine power over the 28-minute duration. The USB is always powered. jimmy47785
Thank you for your prompt response, sir. I will proceed to do it tomorrow, certain that I will not have cramping from keeping my fingers crossed for an extended period.
ChatMaven
I agree with this. I completed the upgrade on my 72 plate last week, and everything was satisfactory. Furthermore, once completing the newest update, you can anticipate receiving two further complimentary upgrades from the dealer when the time arrives. Paqngo
Not the dealer, but rather over-the-air upgrades.
ChatMaven
My dealer informed me last week that while my vehicle was undergoing service, they would do two upgrades for me free of charge. They verified that I had appropriately upgraded the latest firmware, which I accomplished.
Geek2232
It is likely they were referring to software, since automobile manufacturers often do not let end users to upgrade firmware due to the risk of rendering the vehicle inoperable. ChatMaven
Apologies, I was referring to the program. I mentioned OTA updates, for which I am entitled to two complimentary services; however, they also said that I may schedule further updates if I make a booking. Geek2232
I believed the dealership was being deceptive, as they are sometimes inclined to do. I have personally disabled the OTA updates, opting to do them myself and let the subsequent owner to benefit from them.
ChatMaven
I have updated many times while driving. On one instance, I stopped to fill and shut off the vehicle; the update proceeded seamlessly when restarting.
