ianwh4
Hi everyoneJust wondering if anyone here has heard of Killeavy Transport in BelfastI've been looking for a car for a while and found a 2021 Mercedes C220d AMG Line they're advertising as a finance repossession. I'm from Sheffield so going all the way to Belfast to have a look isn't exactly easyThe price is about £4000 less than what I've seen elsewhere which sounds great but also makes me wonder a bitThey mentioned delivery would take around 6 to 8 working days and there's a 14 day inspection period once the car arrivesAnyone dealt with this sort of thing before or know what I should be checkingCheers
Howard_silver
I'd be careful mate. Not saying there's anything wrong with them but that much cheaper than normal would make me ask a few questions, there is loads of dodgy car adverts about these days and once you've sent a bank transfer it can be difficult getting your money back
Paulinelinker
I'm not far from Belfast myself but can't say I've ever bought anything from them. I'd check their company details and make sure you're actually speaking to the right people. Sometimes scammers use the name of a genuine business and pretend they're selling cars on its behalfWorth making a few calls before sending anything
TDudette
Had a look into buying repo cars a while back and there's nothing unusual about finance companies selling recovered vehicles what matters is whether they've actually got the right to sell that particular car.Ask for the VIN and registration and get a proper history check done. I'd also want to know if there's any finance still showing against it
ianwh4
Thanks everyoneThe payment side is what I'm not completely comfortable with. They want a bank transfer before arranging delivery and there's no option to pay the driver when the car turns up. They've sent me a payment invoice and some documents but I haven't paid anything yet
ChatMaven
Bought a 2022 MINI Countryman from Killeavy Transport in September. Same process full payment into their segregated client account first. Got an email confirmation from their accounts team the same day, which settled my nerves a bit.Delivery to London took 8 days. Car arrived spotless with all the documents V5C, MOT, service records, even a finance release note. Took it to my local garage after a few days everything checked out.Bit of a gamble at first, but turned out fine for me.
ianwh4
That's good to know thanksWould the V5C normally come with the car or does that take a while to sort out. They said the keys and paperwork are included but I'd rather know exactly what I'm getting before agreeing to anything
jennycarlotta
One thing worth mentioning is the new bank fraud protection that came in Oct 2024, it can help in certain cases where people are tricked into sending money but it's not a guarantee that you'll get refunded if a car never arrives
ChatMaven
I got the car and all the documentation, I changed the V5C to my name after the inspection time was complete, everything went smoothly, all the documents match and were real
Matt865
I experienced a similar experience when I bought a 2019 Disco 5 from them last month. Chris was awesome, he took care of everything, explained the payment and the 10 day return policy very thoroughly and even gave more photographs of the car. Also worth noting, starting 7th October 2024 UK banks have to repay up to £85,000 if a client falls victim to a push-payment fraud, which provided me some extra comfort. That's a good little backup plan if something ever goes awry.
badgx
So pleased I came upon this thread, last year, my younger cousin was scammed on Marketplace for a 2018 Fiat 500, lost just over £2k full false listing, no car, no refund. Fortunately, the new bank safeguards ensured she was repaid within five days. That policy is a godsend for folks who are going through moves. After reading all of your comments, Killeavy Transports sounds like one of the few authentic ones left. That is how it should be done. Transparent procedure, formal documents, delivery with their own vehicles.
ianwh4
Quick update for anyone interested, I've asked for an independent inspection and a bit more information about the ownership and transport arrangementsAlso checking the company contact details myself rather than just using the number from the advertStill interested in the Mercedes but I'm not sending any money until I'm happy with everythingWill let you know what happens
Howard_silver
Sounds sensible mate, if everything checks out then you've found yourself a decent deal. If Killeavy Transport won't let you verify things properly then I'd walk away plenty of other cars out there
ianwh4
A buddy went to verify the car and the documents, everything is good and just another tiny update I have send the payment them, waiting for delivery confirmation
ianwh4
The Mercedes C220d arrived this morning! Driver phoned about 40 minutes before showing up to check parking access. Car looks fantastic spotless inside, drives perfectly. All documents were neatly packed in a folder inside the glove box.Taking it for a service inspection tomorrow, but first impressions are excellent. Thanks everyone for helping put my mind at ease.
