Mistral
Yesterday, I had my 2016 F10 520d serviced by a local independent mechanic. This was the first time my car was serviced by someone other than a BMW dealer. Upon inspecting the Service History section of the i-Drive, I was disheartened to see the absence of a record for yesterday's service. However, I later saw that the information was really there, but not in the anticipated sequence. The previous entries are arranged chronologically, with the most recent one appearing at the top of the list. However, the new independent entry is located at the bottom. Is it customary for non-BMW submissions to always be treated this way, or is there a problem with this particular entry? The cost comparisons with my last BMW service, which was conducted two years ago, are intriguing. The independent retailer offered the components (oil, oil filter, and cabin filter) at a price that was £70 lower compared to BMW. It is likely that they used compatible parts instead of genuine BMW parts. The independent incurred an additional cost of £50 for labour. Presumably, the expenses for both components and workforce from BMW would have increased throughout those two years. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately determine the exact cost it would have been this year.
Paqngo
If the software versions are same, I must input the service history into the iDrive system. However, it appends the entries to the bottom of the list unless I delete all existing records and input them again in the right sequence. Mistral
Thank you. The approach seems to be inadequate, since organising the information in chronological order is a fundamental and evident need. Presumably, BMW employs a distinct mechanism that operates differently from the aftermarket products in some manner.
ianwh4
My situation remains unchanged. I surmised that the reason for it was the identification number of the independent garage being 0000. Is your situation identical?
Mistral
The displayed information just includes the name of the garage, "Date: 06.09.2024 Service: B Smith", without showing a numerical identification. The BMW entries are shown in the format "Date: 27.09.2023 Service: 01234 BMW". However, the numeric ID does not seem to play a role in the sorting process. It is solely based on the date, apart from any other factors.
Paqngo
At BMW, after the service is completed, all service records are maintained on BMW servers. Whenever a new service is added, the whole service history is downloaded back to the vehicle. Independent garages lack this capability, thus they are only able to create new entries. The automobile cannot be organised in chronological order, and the software is also unable to modify old entries. When doing the task, I meticulously record all the historical data and then erase it. Then, I proceed to input each entry individually and in the appropriate sequence into the designated section of the program. Finally, I transmit the whole set of data to the automobile. It is quite time-consuming, which is likely why locations just include an entry.
Mistral
I understand, thank you for clarifying. I am astonished that the program lacks the functionality to automatically do the task of downloading existing records from the automobile, clearing them, and then re-uploading them. Being a former software developer, I would have definitely considered including it as an option. However, there could be some internal constraints preventing its feasibility. Rashman4u
Once a vehicle is outside of the authorised dealer network, BMW does not prioritise the order and it becomes inconsequential to them. Is it a duration of 2 years? Ensure that the service is conducted in accordance with the computer's recommendations or by following the correct procedure, without beyond 10,000 miles between oil changes. Mistral
Most often, both options are applicable. Indeed, I have been according to the instructions provided by the computer. However, as of late, my annual mileage has been consistently below 5,000 miles. Do you bring your vehicle in for regular oil changes? Is it possible to have the actions you do yourself recorded in the iDrive system?
Rashman4u
I ensure that the oil and filter are changed at every MOT (about every 6,000 miles), and I maintain a spreadsheet to track all other service-related tasks. My vehicle is too outdated to support iDrive records.
