Matt865
Was having a browse on eBay yesterday and came across a 2021 Volvo XC60 R-Design that caught my eye. Price was quite a bit below everything else I've seen with similar mileage, so naturally I sent a message expecting there to be some sort of catch. Got a reply from Han independent selling agent saying that the car is owned by Mcerlane Logistics from Belfast Never come across them before though. Anyone actually bought a car through them or even used them for transport?
Paulinelinker
Never used them personally, I'd be careful though mate, especially with anything advertised as a cheap "repo" far too many convincing scams about now. Check the company properly, address, registration etc before sending anything
Howard_silver
Agree with the above... I'm probably old fashioned but I want to see a car, sit in it, drive it round the block and look through the documents before money changes hands. @Matt865 where are they actually based? Matt865
Belfast apparently. That's half the problem because I'm in Exeter 😂 They said I'm welcome to arrange a viewing, but realistically it's a fair trek just to look at a car
Chrishazle
Funny timing because I bought a 2020 Mercedes GLC 220d through Mcerlane Logistics earlier this year. I'm near Manchester so I didn't go over either and they talked me through everything on the phone and arranged transport once the purchase was sorted Arrived in 8 days and first thing I did was book it into an independent Mercedes specialist because there was no chance I was relying purely on photographs. They checked underneath, diagnostics, brakes, tyres, everything.
WordSmith
That's the bit I'd be doing as well doesn't matter how good the seller sounds £300 or so for an independent inspection is money well spent.
CyberNinja
Can't comment on their vehicle sales, but I've dealt with Mcerlane Logistics on the freight side through work. They moved industrial equipment for us from Belfast across to France. Customs paperwork was handled properly and we were kept updated Didn't even know they sold cars until reading this!!! Matt865
@Chrishazle did you have to pay the whole lot before the car left Belfast or was it deposit first? That's probably the part making me most uncomfortable.
Chrishazle
Full balance was required before dispatch in my case, and yes, that immediately made me nervous as well. I didn't just send it blindly though I checked the business details myself, spoke to them more than once and made sure the information I was being given matched up. badgx
hey all, another buyer here! Got a 2022 Ford Kuga ST-Line X from them last summer. I genuinely spent the first few days after paying thinking "what the hell have I done" 😂 Nobody pressured me to accept it there and Mcerlane Logistics either. Had my own garage inspect it a couple of days later before I made my mind up Sometimes something can look dodgy simply because you're buying in a way you're not used to
Howard_silver
At least they allow people to go to Belfast and view.I'd be far more suspicious if the answer was suddenly "sorry, nobody can visit the premises"
Matt865
Spoke with them again this morning and asked pretty much every annoying question I could think of. They were actually fine about it still haven't completely made my mind up, but I'm leaning towards going ahead Wife thinks I'm mad buying something in Belfast without seeing it ! Matt865
Went for it, now the waiting begins...
Matt865
Well, here's the update everyone was waiting for... The Volvo arrived this morning driver rang beforehand because he wanted to check where he could safely get the transporter in. Everything went smoothly and the car looks cracking. My wife has now gone from "you've definitely been scammed" to asking when she gets to drive it 🤦♂️
jennycarlotta
I've had a Discovery 5 listing saved for a few days myself. Threads like this are useful because buying remotely still feels completely alien to me
ChatMaven
Honestly when I first opened this thread I expected the final update to be well lads, I've lost my money. Nice to see it went the other way still think anyone buying a vehicle remotely needs to be extremely careful though
