Additionally, there is a consideration to include a wireless charging feature inside the central armrest. Does it function only as a plug-and-play device? BMW transitioned from an initial activation charge to a monthly subscription model and now claims to provide its services at no cost. Is Apple CarPlay available in BMW vehicles? Can it be added? The 2017 F32 model I had did not come equipped with wireless CarPlay functionality. Upon inquiring with BMW, I was informed that enabling wireless CarPlay would not be possible due to the need of having WiFi capability in the Head Unit (HU). Nevertheless, I engaged in a conversation with an unauthorized vendor who examined the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of my automobile and said that the desired task could be accomplished. I received a file through email and proceeded to use a Windows laptop along with a suitable BMW-compatible connection to successfully install and activate the CarPlay feature. The performance was very effective and accurately aligned with expectations. The primary concern was to the restricted coverage area of the wireless internet connectivity originating from the HU, necessitating the placement of the phone inside the central console.
