Only a corrupt MOT examiner would permit a vehicle, originally fitted with a catalytic converter by the manufacturer, to pass the inspection without the converter installed.

Dealer profit margins and contemplating a modification
DSM10000 replied to ML350_Colin's topic in General Discussions
As an experienced salesman, I would not accept a margin of less than 3,000 on a 15,000 vehicle; even that seems somewhat constrained. Prior to initiating any negotiations or discounts, it is important to note that $3,000 is not a substantial amount. You initially incur VAT on the £3000 "profit" (which constitutes the VAT content, not inclusive of VAT), resulting in a £500 loss to taxation before any further deductions.Furthermore, if the engine malfunctions during the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) necessitating the installation of a reconditioned unit at a cost of £3000, you ultimately realise no profit. Additionally, you are obligated to remit VAT on the entire £3000, as you cannot deduct any reconditioning expenses from your margin prior to taxation. Consequently, you would incur a loss of £500. Subsequently, you are responsible for the warranty payment, which may be seen as insurance ensuring that the vehicle you sell does not malfunction; if it does, ideally the warranty provider will cover the costs instead of you.It is not intended to safeguard the customer; rather, it is designed to protect the dealer. This amounts to several hundred, potentially more if it pertains to a high-end vehicle. Neglecting to identify a low or damaged tyre during your appraisal may result in an additional expense of three to four hundred dollars. Subsequently, you must compensate your technician, who charges between 40,000 and 50,000 annually, for the pre-delivery inspection and/or servicing, in addition to the cost of parts. The valet will want compensation, as would the administrative personnel and any other individuals associated with car sales. Additionally, there are the escalating business charges, attributed to Rachel. Heating, lighting, information technology, etc. Consider it from that perspective; on a favourable to mediocre transaction, one may be fortunate to net £1200 to £1500 on the lower end of a £3000 margin vehicle. Indeed, we occasionally acquire exceptional bargains on select vehicles that we may "procure." However, when considering those with concealed issues that failed to sell within the designated timeframe for various reasons and were subsequently traded, it becomes evident why a substantial margin is essential and why dealers frequently face insolvency. Incorporating the additional mandatory operational criteria of a primary dealership, such as showroom specifications, curated vehicle selection, coffee machines, and other amenities, exacerbates the situation. Few primary dealerships will service vehicles priced below £3000 on a car valued above £20,000. If you observe your former vehicle on the forecourt priced only slightly above what they paid you, it is likely they anticipate difficulty in selling it. Consequently, they may have incorporated a portion of the profit from the new car into its price to facilitate its sale. Alternatively, if it is near the end of a quarter or fiscal year, they might include part of the quarterly bonus in the pricing to secure the final deals necessary to meet targets. -
It is regrettable that you did not verify:🙄

I have owned my vehicle for a year, and the absence of a rear wiper is not an issue; nonetheless, the 360-degree camera functions exceptionally well.

The VIN located on the windscreen can be utilised, if I recall correctly. Input that into an online VIN decoder, and it will elucidate its significance.

I possess a 72 plate vehicle and am quite satisfied with it; I encountered some initial issues with the HVCH, but they have been resolved, and I am quite pleased.

To my knowledge, the audio alarm or "buzzer" operates solely as an on/off mechanism, with no options for volume modulation. If it were adjustable, I would like to know how to increase the volume; but, the owner's manual does not offer guidance on modifying the buzzer volume. -

Are my wheels the original factory colour?
DSM10000 replied to ByteStorm's topic in General Discussions
Although I cannot assist directly with the colour of your wheels, I suggest searching online for a local automotive paint specialist who may be able to create a colour match to address or enhance the appearance of the blemishes without incurring the cost of refurbishment. It may or may not be successful, but I believe it is worth trying. -
W211 OM642 new glow plugs malfunctioning.
DSM10000 replied to DSM10000's topic in General Discussions
I apologise for the delayed response; however, I encountered another problem with the vehicle following the replacement of the glow plug. It was determined that the exhaust back pressure sensor was causing the car to exhibit various erratic behaviours. I tested the plugs after removal, and they exhibited an open circuit. I considered the possibility of the relay being defective and still suspect that may be the cause. I possess all the beru components except for a few reliable older ones, and everything appears to be functioning well currently. I replaced the relay approximately three years ago; however, if they continue to fail, I will seek a new relay. -
In recent months, the glow plug indicator has remained illuminated post-startup, necessitating the replacement of a glow plug each time, as indicated by my previous Foxwell scanner. In total, I replaced three glow plugs over a span of six weeks, which resolved the issues. I utilised some old glow plugs when necessary, intending to acquire new ones subsequently. Ultimately, I procured new glow plugs, and during installation of the Beru components, cylinder 5 exhibited an open circuit, which was concerning. I changed it, and all functioned properly. Subsequently, cylinder 1 also went open circuit; I replaced it as well, and everything is now functioning correctly. Is there an underlying issue causing my glow plugs to fail, or are the new glow plugs defective? Additionally, I experienced this problem prior to installing the new glow plugs. It is noteworthy that each instance the scanner has indicated a glow plug, it has consistently been the case that the glow plug has failed due to an open circuit. I am aware that glow plug relays might malfunction, although I am not receiving any failure codes for the relay. I would appreciate the insights of our OM642 experts. Thank you in advance.

I am very interested in one of them and considered installing it on the boot lid for accessibility and cable routing. However, it was noted that routing reverse camera wires along the same path might lead to interference. How did you manage to install it on the rear quarter panel?
