Howard_silver
Hello everyone, I have just replaced the steering wheel of my 2016 220 w205 with a 2019 model. However, I am now seeing two error codes and the horn and buttons are not functioning properly. The error codes are as follows: The user's text is "B00012B". The squib for the driver's airbag, also known as stage 1, is a component of the vehicle's safety system. A malfunction has occurred due to a short circuit between the electrical lines. The B000213 code indicates a malfunction in the driver's airbag stage 2 squib, specifically an open circuit. Could someone provide guidance on the necessary steps and requirements? bvlenci
I assume that you have really replaced it with a lower-quality version and need to go back to the original wheel.
Matt865
Yes, please reattach the original one.
Howard_silver
Thank you for your response. However, I was disappointed to learn that after paying £550, the option I want was not available. I was informed that it can be installed, but it requires some kind of programming. This is the specific assistance I am seeking.
clk320x4
It is possible that you may have caused harm to the clockspring during the installation process. The item, such as horns, may have sustained damage during the process of removal from the source automobile. Exercise caution if the wiring connecting to the squib is compromised, as you do not want the airbag to deploy unexpectedly. Detach the battery during the inspection process. Howard_silver
Hello, thank you for your message. I followed the necessary steps to detach the battery and watched an informative YouTube video on how to remove it. However, I have been informed that because the battery is from a later model of the C class, it would need programming to be compatible with the vehicle. I am hoping that someone who has experience with this will provide guidance on how to proceed.
Howard_silver
This vehicle is from a more recent model of the C-Class, therefore it has not been downgraded. However, it requires the correct programming to be completed. Thank you for your message.
Howard_silver
I have also learned that transferring the squib from the old wheel to the new one is effective. However, I have not personally attempted this yet. I understand that the squib refers to the whole wire harness in the airbag system. AMG33D
The probable reason is because the front SAM is unaware of the presence of a steering wheel of a different kind. However, it is not possible to directly alter the front SAM on MB automobiles, often known as 'coding'. Alternatively, there is a procedure known as SCN coding, in which the central computer record for your automobile, sometimes referred to as the 'Datacard', is being updated with the new configuration. After completing the task, the front SAM will get the updated configuration from the MB central computer. Unfortunately, it is not possible to modify and add a SCN-code to an option that was never offered for your vehicle. Based on your situation, I believe you will likely succeed in your endeavour. This is because you are attempting to include a feature from a newer version of the same model (W205) into an older version, which is often feasible. The procedure of SCN coding can only be performed with MB STAR and a live subscription, while being connected to both the automobile and the Internet. Any competent independent professional should be capable of doing this task for you. However, it is evident that there is also a potential for you to have caused harm, as others have said. In this scenario, relying just on SCN code would not rectify the issue. (It is perhaps feasible to breach the system and modify the car's configuration without an active connection to MB, however I lack any expertise in this matter. Therefore, if you choose to pursue this avenue, I recommend doing a Google search for more information.)
br1anuk
It seems to be more problematic than its value justifies. I am curious to see the outcome of this situation.
AMG33D
One of our members successfully installed a W204 facelift dashboard, which included COMAND and an instrument cluster, into a pre-facelift vehicle. Not suitable for those without courage or easily intimidated.... 😄
Darrellll
Although this information may not be helpful to the original poster, it is worth noting that life used to be much easier. All one had to do was loosen one nut, ensure the splines were proper, replace the wheel, tighten the nut, and the task was complete. Currently, I tolerate and accept whatever is provided as the default option. Best wishes
Howard_silver
Fortunately, no harm has occurred as I have reinstalled the old wheel and everything is functioning well, exactly as it was before. It seems that I only need someone who can execute the technique you have advised. There is hope for a resolution, and I appreciate your assistance. bvlenci
There may have been a previous article on this platform or another website on the successful replacement of a C Class steering wheel. It would be advisable to do a thorough search to get more information.
spiezen
Yes, traditional modifications were often quite easy.I installed a three-spoke leather steering wheel from an Audi 80 into one of my Volkswagen Transporters. The most challenging aspect was locating a Volkswagen emblem that was suitable in size and shape.
Howard_silver
I have successfully located the necessary equipment, and it is now being sent to me. It is just an adapter that attaches to the squib and enables it to function properly. Will provide an update after the installation process is completed. Howard_silver
I am pleased to report that everything has been successfully resolved. The steering wheel adaptor effectively performs its function, resulting in a fully operational system. It is only a question of locating the appropriate individual who has the necessary equipment. Thank you everyone for your assistance.
