I need help with a problem with the DVLA.

As stated in the headline, I am having a dispute with the DVLA about an apparently untaxed car that I own. So here are the highlights:

Car purchased at auction with no V5 since it was a financial repossession.

I filled out the V62 form to apply for a V5.

As per my trade policy, the car has been reported as being in my possession.

While V5 is being delivered, use the vehicle with trade plates as a smoker.

A few days after receiving the V5, I get a letter informing me that the car is untaxed and that I owe them a month's road fund licence.

I replied by stating that the car has trade plates.

get no response to the letter

I have now got a letter from the DVLA indicating that I owe them £338 as an out-of-court settlement for an untaxed car. Given that I had replied to the first letter, it seems that they have used excessive force.

I attempted to call them yesterday, but the whole choices list seemed to be tailored towards avoiding talking to people and implying that appeals are seldom successful.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Trade plates are intended to be used exclusively on trade-related trips.

The ANPR camera cannot see the licence plates if they are positioned on top of the dashboard or behind the rear window. You should be able to obtain a copy of the ANPR image to support your claim, but they WILL prosecute if the trade plates are not visible.

Many people still work from home for the DVLA.To try to hear back from a real person, I would send them a letter by first-class, signed-for, registered mail.I still put plates inside, but not like I used to.How about paying a month's worth of road tax by cheque "under protest" and asking for a photo?I don't think you were smoking it because you can't use Trade Plates for personal trips.

Have success with DVLA

Is it on again?

They had again turned it off the previous week, and it took 42 minutes to complete the dog and bone.

maureen Due to the covid restriction at dvla h, she can now do her manicures and answer some queries while working from home, she told me.

webchat was disabled

Phone lines were switched off for everything but driving licences.

This is a national scandal, and all our politicians do is pontificate on everything and everything while doing nothing.

It's bloody revolting.

I've just been on webchat in wait for 22 minutes and it sent me to the national archives website; if I can't figure out whether my vehicle is in trade, it'll wind up as an exhibit.

I was just thrown out again; this is actual Internet, not some shady 5 g connection.

The notification now states that advisers are no longer accessible.
