Both the magnets and the kits for the camshaft position sensors are available at 63motorsport. It serves as a protective barrier against oil ingress and the capillary effect of oil travelling up the car wiring harness to the ecu. It would seem that the position sensors of the camshaft are more prone to failure.

Beneath that heatshrink is effectively a Raychem solder junction. The wicking process is halted when a solder block is placed on the strands. The early M271 engine, which had issues with the camshaft adjuster magnets, was the reason Mercedes made these. Interestingly, the issue didn't arise until Mercedes abandoned the long-used configuration of their wiring plugs. Modern techniques involve crimping tiny pins to the copper strands instead of soldering them, as opposed to the previous method of using large, spherical pins. Unchecked, the oil will wick up the copper to the other end, which is shocking to some.

What kind of protection does the addition of pig tails provide against oil seepage up the wiring looms?
-
You are aware that heatshrink can be applied with a heat gun. 😉

Good day! You can't go wrong with genuine Febi goods. Keep an eye out for fakes sold on eBay. I just changed all four camshaft sensors on my m157 since I found out one of them was leaking oil. After doing some additional research, I discovered that they were more fairly priced on Autodoc, therefore I ended up buying mine from the MB dealership instead. Continental is the brand of tires that appears on the MB OEM sensors. Some bunches from 63motorsport are a good investment, in my opinion. It will aid in preventing oil from possibly making its way up the wiring loom and into the ecu.

Salutations everyone! I have a question regarding the cam sensors for my E63 M157. MB sells them for about £65 each, but you can get Febi ones for roughly £15. Is there any difference in quality or anything else? I am grateful.

Procedure for post HV battery replacement?
Howard_silver replied to Howard_silver's topic in General Discussions
Indeed, I will explore local options to identify any electric vehicle specialists capable of updating and reprogramming the ECU. Currently, the ECU appears to recognise the prior 7Kw battery as installed, thereby treating the replacement battery as if it were the defective one. Additionally, it is unclear whether the ECU retains information regarding the fault of the old battery, which could influence its charging and usage protocols. Consequently, updating and recoding the ECU would reset these parameters, ensuring the proper utilisation of the replacement battery. I remain hopeful! -

I fully concur; securing the position is commendable. Such matters occupy my thoughts as well. I am not knowledgeable about electric vehicles; nevertheless, you might enquire with local EV specialists or your nearby BMW independent mechanic, who may possess coding expertise or know someone who does. -

Indeed, I suspected that would be the situation; but, I am uncertain how to proceed. Ultimately, the crucial aspect is that the vehicle is operational, powered by electricity, without any warnings or faults; however, it would be preferable to perform the task thoroughly. Thank you. -

Some reprogramming may be necessary, but I am uncertain how to proceed. Apologies. The ECU was programmed at the manufacture with the battery specifications, hence it requires updated information regarding the current battery. -
Greetings, I need guidance on the necessary steps to take following the installation of a replacement high-voltage battery in my 2016 225xe. The physical procedure seems to have proceeded successfully, as a pre-owned HV battery was acquired and a local EV specialist replaced the defective HV battery with the new one. The vehicle operates effectively, exhibiting no errors (auditory alerts, warnings, or drivetrain error messages). Although the range appears to have improved, the range indicator on the EV battery screen continues to reflect the previous battery range of 10 miles (originally a 7kW battery), despite achieving greater distance with the newly installed 10kW battery. Is a software upgrade or reset necessary to inform the vehicle about the new HV batteries, enabling accurate range display and proper charging? Thank you very much.

It's a spark plug gaske that's leaking from the cam cover. -

In that circumstance, I'd expect to see a lot of combustion gas exiting. Perhaps the oil could even be redirected? Probably a cam cover that's leaking. -

As far as I'm aware, there is no English word that adequately describes the shape of the spark plug recess gaskets, therefore I used the word "round" to describe them. Well done! -

Fitted a new gasket to the cover and spark surround. Those wheels on this engine aren't circular! The worn-out rubber felt a little compressed and worn out! The acoustic cover is still removed, allowing me to inspect the coils for any additional leakage. All right, tightened down properly. While I am waiting for new spark plugs at my son's place, I must say that the current plugs are still in quite decent condition. His employment with Niterra (formerly NGK) is fairly practical. -

Because they squeeze each round gasket around each plug, I would assume that whoever changed the plugs last didn't torque the spark plug nuts down correctly at 11nm (I think). The oil will seep past the gaskets and pool around the plugs if they aren't snug enough. -
I discovered that all four of the spark plug recesses were filled with old engine oil after yesterday's oil and filter change. Unexpectedly, the coil and plugs were functioning well (and continue to do so) and there was no engine misfire; I suppose it had to have been there for some time. Cleaned it all up & picking up a replacement cam cover gasket set today. I really hope the cover isn't cracked and that's the only thing it is. Are there any other common reasons for this problem?

Sure, I'd be happy to have a look if you were closer. Maybe someone in your neighborhood can suggest a place that won't take advantage of you with their parts cannon.

I also checked out your Facebook profile. What a shame your twin isn't a Chester resident. You seem like the ideal individual to provide me a hand.
