DreamWeaver
Greetings, everyone. I have no prior experience with the R8. Presently, I own a Porsche GT4 and am contemplating selling it. I am strongly contemplating moving to a R8. Considering my little understanding of cars, I would really welcome advise from experienced owners about the specific model I should choose. I am interested in purchasing a 5.2 manual gearbox vehicle. Furthermore, I am somewhat ignorant about what would be advantageous to search for. I am receptive to either a coupe or a spyder. My budget is between £60,000 and £70,000. Opinions are requested, both from women and men.
TechWhiz
In my opinion, the V10 manual is the preferable choice, however I must own my prejudice as a previous owner. Regarding the choice between a coupe or spyder, it is very subjective. Opinions vary about the aesthetic appeal of the coupe vs the spyder, with some arguing that the coupe is more visually pleasing, while others contend that the spyder has a more pronounced V10 engine sound. Purchase based on condition and historical records - mileage is of lesser significance. Make careful you have a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) conducted, since these automobiles have the potential to accumulate significant expenses rapidly. DreamWeaver
I appreciate your input. Do you have a certain year in mind? Did the face lift occur after 2014? In which year was the manual discontinued? I have several enquiries.
TechWhiz
The facelift of the vehicle was first presented in Europe in 2012. Initially, it was offered with a manual gearbox, but this option was eliminated when the second generation was debuted, which I think occurred in late 2015. If you are not familiar with RE Performance in Swindon, I suggest you visit their Youtube channel. Ricky is widely recognised as the foremost expert on R8 vehicles in the nation. Blu_Ray_UK2007
In my own opinion, I find the Coupe to be aesthetically superior than the Spyder, mostly due to the inclusion of a glass engine window that allows for a clear view of the V10 engine. They illuminated the engine bay to enhance visibility at nighttime. The Spyder engine remains concealed until the hood is opened. Spyder's limited headroom when the top is closed may be a concern for anybody taller than 6 feet.
Howard_silver
What is the reason behind the relatively low prices of R8 cars in Europe? That amount is equivalent to a significant sum of money in the United States.
p00rmansp0rsche
I have had a total of 6 Porsche 911 cars, which included a Turbo and a Cabriolet, over a span of 40 years. However, I just decided to switch to a 2017 R8 Plus model. I have a strong recollection of all my Porsches, and I hold them in high regard. However, the presence of a V10 engine in a R8 elevates it to a superior level.
