Red hues to steer clear of

Recommended Posts

We are contemplating acquiring a GLA, and a significant number of the available options are of a red colour. Many difficulties have been reported about complications. Is there a comprehensive list of the hues that should be avoided?

Based on my research on this topic, it seems that only Fire Opal red and Jupiter Red are considered solid red colours for Mercedes vehicles. Metallic colours like Hyacinth are OK. However, I have never personally owned a Mercedes, so this information is solely derived from my readings. Professionals will arrive soon to rectify any errors I may have made!!!!

Carneol red metallic might be included on the list of problematic colours due to issues with lacquer failure instead of the real paint. Mercedes-Benz does not show any interest in addressing this matter. Within the last 4-5 years, the bonnet and roof of the vehicle were repainted. However, less than 2 years later, the paint shop had to redo the roof free of charge due to a problem with the protective coating. In March of this year, the bonnet and tailboard spoiler were repainted, and now the rear passenger door, side panels, wing mirror back casings and the black strips on either side of the windscreen are in need of repainting as well, as the protective coating has failed.

Avoid Mars Red as well. However, a contemporary GLA should not be susceptible to any issues related to red paint.
It seems that the only available colour in red is Patagonia Red, which costs £825 as an additional option when purchasing a new car, as stated by Car Wow.

Mars Red is the American counterpart of Fire Opal Red in the United Kingdom. Given the significant financial losses incurred by MB due to the Fire Opal Red disaster between 2007 and 2012, one would expect that they had already resolved the issue by now.

I visited two GLAs today, both of which were coloured Jupiter red.

The first vehicle was not present at the dealership since it was undergoing a recall procedure at MB. I inquired the salesperson about the issue with the paint. He freely acknowledged that they had experienced a few instances of automobiles displaying the problem, but Mercedes-Benz noticed the issue and resolved it accordingly. There was another Jupiter red car available, but it did not have the specifications we desired. However, it was in good condition with no visible paint damage. He will contact me once they get the automobile.

Proceeding to the second dealership, the salesperson expressed sincere regret as they did not own the vehicle either. It was undergoing a comprehensive respray at MB. This issue was present on a vehicle manufactured in 2019, indicating that the problem persisted at that time. However, it is important to note that not every automobile of the same colour is affected by this problem.

The selection is already restricted as my wife has expressed a preference against black, grey, and silver options. Furthermore, if I also exclude red ones, the available choices become much more constrained.

I have not come across any reports about problems with the Designo Hyacinth Red Metallic colour, and our 2016 C-Class vehicle does not exhibit any paint-related concerns.

We personally saw micro-blistering on a 2015 C-Class Coupe that was around 18 months old.

Have you considered acquiring a blue one?

The problems encountered include microblistering and lacquer flaking. It seems that the only solution is to completely repaint the vehicle's exterior, known as a bare-metal respray. At one point, Mercedes-Benz used to bear the expenses for this procedure. Uncertain about their current practices.

To get information on paint issues with Mercedes Fire Opal Red, just search for 'Mercedes Fire Opal Red paint difficulties' on Google. You will find several results.
