TechWhiz
As I plan an early Summer road vacation, I see that I have excess time to allocate in this particular section of the route. Apart from Pau and Lourdes, I am unfamiliar with any other town names. Does anybody know if there are any noteworthy places to make a stop? I had already contemplated the possibility of visiting Andorra, but after reading evaluations, it seems that the prospects are not favourable. We will be travelling from Carcassone to Costa Brava and then returning via La Rioja. However, it is important to note that there may be delays at the border between France and Spain along the shore. bvlenci
If you engage in the activity of surfing, I highly recommend visiting Biarritz, as it offers some of the most exceptional waves I have ever experienced.
ForumGuru
The area east of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port has several breathtaking routes to drive on, one of which being the lesser-known Col du Tourmalet 😉 While travelling east through the Hautes-Pyrénées, you will encounter breathtaking landscape. If you have enough time, this region offers the opportunity to spend an entire day driving a mere 150 miles due to the slow and winding nature of some of the roads. During the summer, several ski resorts provide affordable and well-appointed accommodations, making it easy to locate a pleasant place to stay overnight. If you are interested in spending time in a city, Toulouse is worth considering.
drummer
The route over the Pyrenees leading to the town of Isaba unquestionably ranks among my top three choices for scenic drives. During your visit, you will get the opportunity to see untamed equines, admire the Pyrenees as a formidable mountain range, and experience thrilling drives including challenging curves that pose no threat to safety. I reviewed it on my w210 vehicle few years ago. Undoubtedly, this route is exceptional for driving, particularly when compared to the monotonous ones in Les Landes. ForumGuru
It is worth mentioning that if you are interested in discovering picturesque routes, Michelin maps are unrivalled in that particular domain. Any road that is shown with a green border is categorised as "picturesque". An online version of the same cartography may also be obtained via ViaMichelin. jimmy47785
I had a delightful vacation in the Costa Brava. Enjoy!
DSM10000
I have traversed the whole Pyrénées mountain range around twelve times over the last four decades, with my most recent journey taking place last year in my R230 vehicle. I have a strong affection for Haro, particularly its wine and dining establishments. However, I have a special preference for the smaller and more secluded towns and villages. br1anuk
If I were given a three-month period, I would allocate my time between exploring Biarritz on foot and seeing the Pyrenees by car. The weather may be unpredictable, but you just adapt and find ways to overcome it.
DSM10000
The phenomenon of global warming has had an impact on the amount of snowfall occurring in the Pyrénées mountain range. However, it is advisable to exercise caution and make necessary preparations. Several years ago, I recall having to alter my route due to the presence of snow blocking several of the passes during the first days of June. I own a picture, but I am unable to locate it at the moment. An affordable hotel that I really like is the Rural L'Ortiga Blanca in Queralbs, Catalonia. It is conveniently located just 700 metres away from the Vall de Núria Ski station. I am certain that you will have an exceptional journey.
