The cost estimate for replacing the battery in the C350e is $14,000.

I own a 2018 c350e estate with 71,000 miles and have received a quotation of €14,000 from the Mercedes-Benz dealer to replace the high-voltage battery. I have purchased a new 12v battery and two speed sensors, but the problem persists. The dealer has identified that the issue is related to insulation in the battery. Has anybody have practical experience with replacing the battery of a vehicle that was first purchased in the UK and then brought to Ireland at 60,000 miles? I have had the automobile for about 12 months. The issue began around 2 weeks ago with a red battery failure indicator and a towing symbol. The car has been towed twice and is now at the dealership. Mercedes-Benz Germany does not have any hybrid batteries in store, therefore it is uncertain how long the car will be there. Their certainty over the provision of a new 6-year/100,000km guarantee on the battery was unclear when I inquired. Seeking guidance, thank you.

Are you able to purchase the battery? On a USA forum, a man just changed the three traction batteries located under the back seat of his Lexus hybrid. He received a substantial discount, paying about $3500 instead of the usual price of over $6000, from an online merchant specialising in Lexus and Toyota components. He had to transfer some parts/wiring from the old batteries to the new ones, which he found to be as straightforward as 'paint by numbers'. The Lexus dealership provided a fitting fee estimate of $1600.

You can find a car battery on eBay for £900 including postage. If you are dealing with a £14,000 bill, it might be worth considering. Your car, when operational, is valued at around £12,000 if sold to the trade. It's an unfortunate situation, and I hope it resolves in your favour. Are they willing to install a new battery under the 6-year warranty?

An expanding sector is expected to emerge for aftermarket services specialising in fixing battery packs.

This pack will ultimately be constructed using mass-produced cells from China.

£14k seems to be expensive. I am curious what the capacity it offers. LiFePO4 cells are becoming more affordable. I am astonished that Mercedes-Benz did not anticipate these concerns and proactively strategize to maintain their image and consumer trust.

They do not intend for their automobiles to have an indefinite lifespan, but they must be able to rationalise their pricing, and consistent resale values are a component of that strategy.

Have you consulted any independent experts that specialise in hybrid/EV vehicles and could provide advice on other choices, such as replacing the batteries solely, instead of going to the major dealer?

The problem with the operations pack seems to be a "Isolation fault," which occurs when the BMS detects either a high voltage outside of the internal battery structure or too low resistance between internal and exterior terminals.

This is meant to prevent sections of the automobile from being energised at voltages above 100V DC. If a malfunctioning cell operating below capacity may be replaced, additional investigation and repair are required. The typical reason for this sort of issue is water entering the system. Uncertain about the feasibility of installing a pre-owned batteries and programming the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), but considering the brand Mercedes-Benz, it is likely that the process will need accessing and modifying certain chips inside the batteries Management System (BMS) to transmit the unique identification information. Most likely the optimal choice.

The battery pack unit from MB is pricey, however with time, there may be a need for diagnostic and repair services rather than complete replacement.

It's similar to discarding an engine due to a flaw in one cylinder that might be easily fixed.

Where is BBA Reman located?
