AMG33D
Hello everyone, Simple inquiry. Today, a notification appeared on my screen instructing me to add 1 litre of oil on my next refuelling. My E220d (2021 Coupe) is compatible with 5w 30 oil. I have a 1-liter bottle of Castrol 5w 30 A5. Can I use this? I am uncertain about the meaning of "A5". Thank you for any help provided. EatSuru
If the specification on the back of the bottle is about 229.52 MB, then the answer is yes.
cumblechook22
Add just 500ml, not the whole 1 litre, and then reassess the level. It is preferable to fill less than to fill more.

AMG33D
It seems this bottle was designed for a Ford vehicle, making it of little use to me.
Trevorseaf
Adding half a litre of Ford-specific oil to your engine would not cause it to explode, but I would advise against doing so. Use engine oil that complies with MB229.51 or MB229.52 for your engine. The information will be shown on the container. I would use nothing else. 5W-30 is OK. br1anuk
The A5 standard is set by ACEA. The MB229.51/52 oil specification is derived from ACEA C3, indicating a distinct specification. Both A5 and the other engine oil are interchangeable, and having 500ml less of A5 or any other oil will not do any damage. Check whether the warning message reappears before adding more oil, since the oil level sensor may be too sensitive.
Rashman4u
In the past, I added 2.5 litres to my vehicle's fuel tank, which already had 8.5 litres, before embarking on a long trip. I did this since my car was scheduled for repair in a few days and I knew the fuel would be refilled.
Trevorseaf
The quality of the engine oil will impact the engine's long-term service life, and any immediate consequences are difficult to measure without disassembling the engine. Combining oils in this manner may not have any negative effects, but it is impossible to predict the outcome beforehand or afterward. Rashman4u
Agreed. My uncle used the most affordable and suitable oil for his W212. The engine is completely damaged now, and you can audibly hear the pistons banging compared to the Mercedes oil.
