2006 E280 CDI - 722.9 gearbox

Recommended Posts

OM642 paired with 722.9 (VSG2)

Over the past month, I have encountered difficulties, apparently related to the gearbox. Issues such as gear engagement, or when attempting to start the vehicle, result in the engine revving to 2,500 to 3,000 RPM, akin to encountering an obstruction, followed by stuttering as it struggles to surpass the impediment.

I have access to Xentry, and there are no evident flaws indicating the cause of this issue; therefore, I attribute it to the gearbox. I maintained my box, adjusted the fluid level accurately, and ensured the appropriate temperature. The issue was resolved... or so I believed. The following day, we encounter the same issue again.

Has anyone had a similar situation or have any insights regarding this matter? I am presently perplexed; the sole option I have considered is replacing or fixing my conductor plate, which is evidently an expensive undertaking.

Thank you in advance

It is not particularly expensive. The refurbishment of my unit by ECU Testing incurred a cost of roughly £180, as it was displaying several speed sensor codes. You may contact the company, and they will be quite helpful if you articulate the symptoms. I possess a 2007 E320 CDI.
It is possible that the gearbox is not the source of the issue; still, I am astonished that there are no fault codes present.

It appears to be in limp mode, which is likely related to the engine; nevertheless, it is unusual for it to be in limp mode without any fault codes present. The yt 642 exhibited same behaviour when my turbocharger experienced a loss of boost. If the engine is not generating sufficient power, the gearbox will not shift up until it reaches high RPMs. Stuttering resembles engine noise more than gearbox sound. Regrettably, all of this is somewhat speculative from this distance.

Initially, it entered limp mode because to the DPF, preventing it from exceeding 2,000 RPM. As far as I know, it has not been inoperative since I resolved that issue. However, I will certainly review the actual figures on Xentry when I have the opportunity. Thank you

The issue may lie with the exhaust back pressure sensor, as I identified in my vehicle when it exhibited unpredictable behaviour, failing to shift gears appropriately and not revving correctly, resulting in restricted power. I had several problems, however the pressure sensor displayed a consistent value regardless of whether the engine was running or not. After installing a new sensor, the issue was resolved.
