Paqngo
In 6000 miles, a 435d needs an oil change. I recently received a recall letter for an EGR cooler replacement and was planning to simply get my oil and filter changed at the same time. However, I was quoted £282 for a minor oil service and wondered what kind of oil BMW uses and how much of it they use. Given that winter is quickly approaching, £282 must be at least a week's worth of heating.
bvlenci
About once every six months, I give my 640d an oil change using just an OEM filter and high-quality ll04 bmw-approved oil. Fortunately for me, a friend of mine runs a garage, so I can barter with him for oil. The total is usually about £50 for me. cheers
Paqngo
At that price, it's no surprise you change your mind so often! Do you have any clue where I may discover the amount that I need or what bmw uses?
jennycarlotta
I think the N57 takes about 6.5 litres. BMW used to use Castrol oil, then switched to Shell, but I think they're back to Castrol now. I use LL04 5w30 if the car has less than 100,000 miles on it, and LL04 5w40 if it has more.
bvlenci
Every six months, I replace the oil in my 640d, using just a genuine filter and a decent grade ll04 bmw certified oil. I am fortunate in that my friend runs a garage, so I can receive the oil for free. It usually costs me about £50 in total. cheers
Paqngo
No surprise you update it so often at such a high expense! Any ideas where I can obtain the amount required and what bmw uses?

bvlenci
Having access to their infrastructure and oil at a discount is a huge boon to my budget. In my view, changing the oil at regular intervals is important. cheers
ChatMaven
6.5 L of certified BMW Longlife-04 oil is required.
WordSmith
Yes, I purchase mine in bulk, roughly 20 litres for £60, air and oil filters are generally around £20 for the two, and every third visit I replace a gasoline filter, which costs me around £40. QuirkEinstein
As long as the oil contains ll04.
