MrGreedy
Greetings, gentlemen. I own a 2014 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with a 2.0 Diesel engine and 72,000 km on it. Received a correspondence from BMW a few months ago about the issue with the EGR system. The message outlined the potential symptoms that I may see. A warning light indicating low engine coolant is illuminated. The driver is presented with a warning message indicating a problem with the check engine and/or drivetrain. While driving, you encounter a power decrease from the engine. The presence of exhaust fumes and a high-pitched sound emanating from the engine compartment. Smoke is being produced in the engine area. I had the abrupt onset of four symptoms, which caused me to break down soon after while driving on a road after exiting the motorway. The vehicle was successfully transported to Sytner BMW Leicester for recovery. Prior to examining the issue, they attempted to convey to me that it is unlikely to be a recall-related problem and also neglected to provide a courtesy vehicle. One day later, I received a phone call from a woman who said that the issue was unrelated to a recall. Even if it were, we are unable to address it since it seems that your engine, turbo, and timing chain need inspection. Additionally, the oil in your engine is too viscous. I have returned the automobile to my driveway, and it is evident that it does not start. Conducted extensive research on forums and the Internet and discovered that I am not the only one facing this issue. Upon contacting BMW Customer service, they expressed surprise at the repair center's refusal to assist me despite my suffering the symptoms. They advised me to promptly return the vehicle to the service facility. However, the centre declined. I am now receiving constant calls and emails from both BMW customer support and the servicing centre. Sytner refuses to take responsibility for the issue and has failed to accurately diagnose the automobile. Furthermore, they have not included any error codes in the report. The vehicle has been in excellent mechanical condition since I purchased it a year and a half ago from a Vauxhall dealership. It came with a complete service history and I am the second owner. I have not performed maintenance on it yet, but other than that, there are no problems. Has anybody else had similar problems? Currently, there are 7 recalls posted on the government website. Thank you.
jennycarlotta
The vehicle has not been maintained for 18 months. Although BMW recommends maintenance every 24 months, there is one aspect that they would likely notice. However, I would strongly resist complying with their recommendation. IrvesBMW
Locate an alternative BMW dealership. If the consistency of the oil is similar to sludge, it is possible that it was not replaced at the appropriate time. What is the current mileage of the vehicle, and how many miles have you added to it since you bought it?
MrGreedy
I purchased the vehicle when it had around 69,000 miles on it, and it presently has roughly 82,000 miles. I made the purchase in December of 2022. I have not invested a significant amount of money on it (just replaced the brake discs once). Recently, it successfully passed the MOT without any recommendations. When I purchased the vehicle from the Vauxhall dealer, I was the second owner and it came with a full service history (FSH). By the way, I just inspected the oil and it seemed to be completely depleted to me, despite the computer indicating that the engine level was OK. Consequently, I have just added 5 litres of oil. Attempted to initiate the engine, successfully started but thereafter ceased operation within a brief duration. There is an excessive amount of white smoke emanating from the oil cap when it is removed. BMW has declined to provide coverage for the issue. They have said that they need to conduct an investigation, and if it is determined that the issue is not due to a recall, I will be responsible for the cost of the inquiry. However, I am almost certain, with a 99% confidence level, that it is unrelated to the recall, despite experiencing all four symptoms. I currently have a vehicle financing settlement of £7,000. I am continuing to make monthly payments as usual. Undecided on whether to purchase a BMW. In order to verify this, I shall inquire about the expense. Alternatively, might I consider taking it to a reputable independent BMW specialist? I need to have it hauled.
MrGreedy
The fix is expected to be rather expensive, maybe costing a few thousand dollars at an independent shop. The car's value, after repaired, is barely 4k when selling it to a firm. Currently, I have received a quotation of £1,500 for the junk. Even if I repair it, the total cost remains the same, not to mention the additional inconvenience of towing costs. I would like to wait and continue making my regular payments. When the settlement amount decreases, I can then sell it for scrap and use the proceeds to pay off the remaining balance. If anybody is interested in purchasing, you are very welcome. I parked in my driveway.
jennycarlotta
At what point was the oil last changed prior to accumulating 13,000 miles since the purchase?
VWDaveBMW
Did you add 5 litres? The oil level only increases by around 1 litre while filling the dipstick from completely empty to maximum capacity, which takes roughly 5 units of measurement. I recommend refraining from using the engine until it has been thoroughly drained and replaced with the appropriate quantity of fluid. I suspect that the pistons may be submerged when they reach the bottom dead centre (BDC) position.

IrvesBMW
I would accept VWDaveBMW offer and get a quotation for transport services from Shiply or Anyvan.
