carBlacken
I own a 2000 E46 325i. While driving last year, my windscreen wipers unexpectedly stopped functioning. Luckily, it was just drizzling, so I was able to get it home. When I drove the vehicle again, the wipers functioned well and continued to do so for around 10 months. It occurred again and has evolved into a wholly arbitrary image. They may function properly without any issues, but then they start to malfunction. I parked the vehicle, checked the wipers a few times, they worked well. However, when I tried to use them again later, they didn't operate for weeks. Replaced the motor with a second-hand BMW component that has been tested. Despite the mechanic's statement that the car's features were not functioning, they were operational as I drove away. I have changed the wiper stalk. The relay was inspected and cleaned, but it only functioned briefly before failing while driving in the rain. It resumed working a few minutes later. The vehicle was sent to a mechanic where it has remained for a week. The wipers have been tested daily and are functioning properly each time. The washer spray consistently functions well. I have a tight budget and cannot afford to spend money replacing components without solving the problem. Can someone kindly assist me? I am feeling quite frustrated. Is it feasible to install an additional switch on the dashboard to ensure the wipers are functional in my car?
Trevorseaf
How was the wiper relay tested?
br1anuk
I need to repair the brown wiper relay located within the electronics/ECU box in the engine bay. They wear a bridge that confuses the control module, causing them to cease operating until you restart the vehicle.
Rashman4u
I had same issue with my e90 last year. The issue was caused by the relay. It was quite unpredictable. Finally acquired a relay tester. It would function well, then abruptly stop and take a long time to resume working (referring to the relay, not the tester). carBlacken
Did you install a new relay? Has it resolved the issue?
carBlacken
I'm pleased that you resolved your issue. Thank you, it's a cost-effective solution, however my technician has informed me that a new relay would cost about £70. May I know the brand of the relay you purchased? Rashman4u
Authentic BMW from eBay My automobile is a 2009 e90 320D. Locate the relay on your vehicle, remove it to determine the part number (P/N), visit realoem to obtain the P/N, then search for the part on eBay or consider finding a cheaper one at a salvage yard. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202313083967?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338774556&toolid=10001&customid=130832X1595858X9844666e9478ff2a9e80a2c6cd21c513

Rashman4u
Not a problem - I really hope that resolves the issue. Locating an inexpensive OEM relay may not be a significant financial risk, even if it proves to be incompatible.
