Optimum 300 GLC/4Mo Oil

I am in possession of a 2021 GLC 300 vehicle, and after driving it for a distance of 6000 miles, I have seen that the oil level has decreased by around half. In contrast, my previous C class estate vehicle did not exhibit such a significant reduction in oil level within a similar mileage range, and I never had to add more oil to it. I am curious to know whether this level of oil consumption is considered typical for the GLC model.

A recently manufactured automobile.

I am uncertain about your reference to "half way down." Nevertheless, it is recommended that the oil level on the dipstick be positioned at the midpoint between the minimum and maximum indicators. This measurement should be taken five minutes after the engine has been turned off, when it has reached its typical operating temperature. This presupposes the possession of a dipstick.

In an alternative formulation, it is advisable to switch off the engine on a flat area subsequent to an extended drive. Ideally, this would occur at a refuelling break on a lengthy voyage, when the terrain is level and the engine has reached its typical operating temperature. Following this, it is recommended to wait for a duration of 5 minutes before proceeding to inspect the oil levels. The time required for refuelling and completing the payment process is almost same.

Have you conducted several iterations of verification in the past, and if so, have you seen a decrease in magnitude across successive observations? Upon initial acquisition or after a maintenance procedure, it is reasonable to anticipate that the value in question would reside at the median position between the minimum and maximum values. Consequently, if the value indeed aligns with this midpoint, it may be inferred that it has not seen any significant decrease in use.

May I infer that your GLC vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine? Has the item undergone recent servicing? If one examines the display and observes that the oil level is positioned equidistantly between the minimum and maximum indicators while the engine is at its peak operating temperature, it may be concluded that the oil level is satisfactory. The inquiry about recent servicing arises from the tendency of dealers to exercise caution by under-filling engine oil in order to prevent potential damage to diesel engines resulting from high oil levels. In the event that the oil level in the automobile reaches the maximum line, there exists a potential hazard of overfilling, resulting in the activation of a high oil level warning on the vehicle's display. Provided that the length of the text surpasses the minimum need but remains within the maximum limit, there ought to be no complications. It is advisable to consistently monitor the text as one typically does. I have owned two W205 (C Class) diesel vehicles, and I always observed that the oil level remained at the midpoint when the engine reached its optimal operating temperature.

The GLC is equipped with a 2-liter petrol engine. My vehicle, manufactured in 2021, has accumulated around 4500 kilometres. I have only accessed the oil level information via the display on two occasions. Although I cannot recall the specific reading, I am certain that the car's system will provide a notification if the oil level becomes critically low.

In addition to the perspectives shared by other individuals, the original poster (OP) has made a statement on the automobile being newly manufactured, while simultaneously indicating its model year as 2021. If the vehicle in question is from the year 2021, it would be expected to have had at least one servicing session by this point. Can you confirm if this has occurred?

I am unable to comprehend the information presented in the entry pertaining to the concept of oil being 'half gone'. A significant number of recent automobile models assert that an oil consumption rate of 1 litre per 1,000 miles, or a comparable value, is within the realm of acceptability. In light of this, it is vital to inquire about the specifications given in the vehicle's manual about this matter.

I purchased the item in February 2022 and it is now in need of servicing. Based on the information shown on the screen, I had assumed that it would indicate a complete status.

The provision of service is scheduled to occur within a three-week timeframe. I want to inquire at the service department on the appropriate oil level, since the current amount of oil in the vehicle after 6000 miles seems to be excessive. In my future travels, I want to exercise due diligence by verifying the details beforehand.

The Max line represents the uppermost limit to which the oil may be replenished. As previously said in a prior communication, it is acceptable for the temperature to be within the upper limit and lower limit, provided that it remains elevated. The optimal point, often referred to as the 'sweet spot,' is located precisely at the midpoint between the minimum and maximum values. Upon completion of the servicing process, it is anticipated that the oil level would be situated at this particular position. This phenomenon has been seen in both instances of W205 diesel vehicles that I have had. Based on the observation that the GLC vehicle remains at a midpoint on the oil dipstick while heated and positioned on a level surface, it may be inferred that the oil consumption during a span of 6000 miles has been minimal.

Given your apparent uncertainty over the car's oil consumption, it would be advisable to adopt a proactive approach by regularly inspecting the oil levels, rather of depending only on the car's self-diagnostic capabilities. By doing so, you will be able to identify any abnormal patterns or deviations, potentially enabling you to detect and address any issues before they escalate. It is quite probable that the situation is satisfactory.

I appreciate the responses provided. I conducted an inspection of the oil levels subsequent to a period of operation and saw that the oil had been heated to a point where it approached maximum capacity, which I find to be really peculiar. The component on the Mercedes Me platform does not seem to have information specifically about the oil level of the vehicle. However, it does provide details on other aspects like as coolant and windscreen maintenance.
