Moisture in CLS 350 Headlamp

Recommended Posts

Greetings, I just acquired a 2015 CLS 350 AMG Line from a dealership in London, which is a 3.5-hour journey from my residence.

I was informed that the outside headlight unit included moisture inside the lens at the time of purchase. Upon inspection during collection, it seemed that the device had been tampered with, and I requested a replacement unit to be supplied to me. To which they consented. The item has not yet been sent, and the existing unit was functioning well, although with an occasional error indicating a malfunction in the intelligent lighting system; nonetheless, all lights operated correctly, so the situation is acceptable for the time being.

Last night, the offside indication and dipped beam ceased functioning, and the screen indicates a failure of the nearside turn signal, but it remains operational.

Could these issues be attributed to the control module absorbing moisture from the unsealed unit? What is the optimal course of action about this matter?

Possible MOT failure if the headlights are fogged and do not properly focus on the test target on the day of inspection.

What is the anticipated arrival date of the new headlamp? Depending on the specifications, these systems may be rather costly and difficult to get second-hand.

The vehicle has just had a MOT. I purchased it around a month ago, with an agreement from the garage to address the headlight issue. However, I am now concerned that prolonged use may lead to increasing electrical malfunctions.
I may surmise that the garage is reluctant to incur expenses, but I have sent this to them.

Models from the 2016 model year and later, equipped with LED headlights, use QR-paper labels that specify the LED colour batch and the parameters to be transferred to the headlamp controller (including DC current settings, among others).

Videos on YouTube demonstrate the headlamp initialisation method performed using the Xentry diagnostic system.

It is imperative to never remove the QR code from the headlamp. Capture images of the QR codes and retain the photographs for potential future use.

The bulb shown seems to contain far more water than what is typically attributable to standard condensation, a common issue with many Mercedes headlamps. Is there a fracture in the housing?

Mercedes has launched kits including Silica Gel bags intended for placement into headlamps experiencing condensation.
The lights must be removed to install or replace bags containing moisture-saturated silica gel packs.

A further error has been positioning the light's controller in some models near the base of the lamp, just where water intrusion accumulates. In my humble opinion, it is completely foolish.

Other equipment, such as control boxes, where moisture penetration occurs, lead to the formation of galvanic bridges across circuit board (copper) traces.
The outcome is either open or shorted tracks, some of which may appear as dark contaminations or carbon deposits on the circuit boards.
I have successfully repaired circuit boards with damaged copper traces, but not those exhibiting short circuits.

Hello everyone, I am continuing discussions with the garage, and they are covering the costs for the repairs to be conducted locally.

Could someone inform me of the necessary modules for the RHS headlight unit?

I will get a unit tomorrow; I only need to obtain the components.
