The rear dash cam is nonfunctional.

Recommended Posts

Greetings, I own a 2022 registration Sportage Launch Edition. I have equipped my current Orskey dashcam with both front and back cameras. I followed the forum's recommendation and installed a Dongar adapter on the rearview mirror; but, the USB output lacks sufficient energy to power the back camera. Any suggestions? I like to avoid addressing the fuse box issue.

Your only choice in this circumstance is to draw power from the fuse box and use a wire harness, likely sourced from the manufacturer, to prevent depleting your 12v battery. Alternatively, use a different brand of camera(s) that consumes less energy.

I provide electricity to my rear Nextbase dashcam using the provided cable connected to the power outlet in the trunk, discreetly securing the cable as needed. Indeed, one may see the lead; but, who gazes backward?

I powered my front dash cam in my previous Optima model from the interior fuse box using a piggyback fuse, with the wiring discreetly concealed. Upon deciding to get a rear camera, I purchased a compact Nextbase model due to its promotional pricing.

I chose to use the 12V plug in the baggage compartment instead of attaching it to the front end of the vehicle. I successfully concealed the majority of the cable, retaining just sufficient length to provide flexibility in the opening and shutting of the tailgate.

It proved effective and had the unforeseen advantage that tailgaters often retreated upon seeing the camera directed at them. Given the restricted use of the socket, powering a camera seemed to be a judicious decision in an otherwise mostly superfluous facility.
