Removal of the front carpet in the W211

I need to access my fuse box because my PTC heater has malfunctioned, and I intend to disable it. Does anyone have advice on how to remove this door trim without breaking it? These clips seem to be quite robust.
The photograph was captured from the passenger side; however, I now recognise that the fuse box is located on the driver's side for a right-hand drive vehicle.

I did not remove any trim while replacing the fuse; the accelerator pedal must be removed to pull the carpet towards the rear.

Were you able to extract the full carpet backwards instead of merely folding down the front as is possible on the passenger side?

I recall that it was extracted with a firm tug, taken from in front of the seat and removed. less complicated than removing a fuse.
