bvlenci
Greetings, everyone. I seem to be experiencing a significant gearbox issue with my 'brand new' w214 e220d 4matic. Just before to the vehicle coming to a halt, the whole automobile trembles. Occasionally gently, at other times more forcefully. The intensity of the tremors fluctuates. I see that it is mostly more pronounced downhill. To see this behaviour, the vehicle must transition from second gear to first gear and then come to a complete stop. Gradually.. They performed some "adaptation" and "coding" for the transmission and instructed me to drive for a while and return it if the problem continues. And consider this. It does indeed. They have been attempting to resolve the issue for two weeks. Unsuccessful. This is something you cannot comprehend if the start/stop function is enabled. Have you encountered anything of this nature? The service personnel assert that they did not. It is very aggravating and upsetting to see such an inaccuracy in a "flagship" Mercedes. My prior five series never shown such behaviour. 😞
WiseSage
Despite being somewhat disheartening, you possess the benefit of the guarantee on a new vehicle. Continue to return it until you are satisfied that the defect has been rectified. The most worst outcome is that Mercedes approves a new gearbox if the dealer is unable to rectify the issue. Maintain a log of the duration Mercedes retains the vehicle for repairs.
bvlenci
Thank you for your reply. Indeed, I possess the benefit of a warranty; but, any repairs or replacements of the gearbox in a new vehicle lead to a substantial depreciation in value in my nation. I would categorically refuse any repair or replacement for the gearbox. I would only consider software modifications or maybe chip replacements. If they are unable to rectify the issue without component repairs or replacements, I will be compelled to legally request a new vehicle. Unless they provide me with the same outcome without resorting to legal action, I believe I am entitled to it, as advised by my lawyer buddy who also recommended this course of action. We shall see the outcome. I will inform you on the developments and how Mercedes is managing or failing to manage the problem.
WiseSage
Consumer law in Turkey markedly differs from that in the UK. I trust you will achieve a satisfactory resolution.
keithmerc220
How might a buyer of your automobile ascertain that the gearbox has been replaced?
bvlenci
via the service history, of course. When purchasing a secondhand automobile, I consistently verify the service history. Proceed to the service area with the proprietor and request it. The repair would be conducted in the official MB service centre and documented accordingly. If it were performed at a different repair facility, you would remain unaware.
keithmerc220
Understood - I was unaware that it would be included in the vehicle's service history (it is hardly a 'service' item, after all!), and I am astonished that Mercedes would be inclined to disclose a gearbox failure so soon to prospective buyers. I would not have anticipated that occurring in the UK, however I cannot be certain since I have never purchased a new vehicle.
bvlenci
Indeed, they would not substitute a screw without documenting it.
