I hear a metallic chirping sound emanating from the engine compartment whenever I accelerate, whether by downshifting or holding a gear, and this only happens when the engine is completely warmed up (the temperature indicator won't go higher than one tick below half). Even when the temperature is only slightly below full, it remains silent while in park or neutral. This noise is reminiscent of the wastegate rattle. Is anyone able to guess what it might be? This doesn't seem to be a problem with the gearbox, heat shield, or drivetrain; it occurs exclusively in gear, under load, during acceleration, and when the engine is well warmed up. This is a recording of spoken words. Also, I haven't noticed any smoke or leaks, but every three to four thousand miles, I seem to drain nearly a gallon of oil. How did you manage to get the audio recording given the circumstances in which the noise is said to occur? I thought you were leaning out the window of the car! Even when travelling at high speeds on the highway, you can hear it through closed windows. It could be spark knock, according to someone on Reddit... Just wanted to clarify that I would love to hear the sound you describe. If it were knocking from low-grade petrol, I wouldn't hear it like you're describing it; it would be more regular and repetitive. Your description seems to indicate that the turbo charger might be ramping up at that time. Maybe the turbo's heat shield is flexing.
