TechWhiz
I have recently fitted a Chinese aftermarket infotainment screen in my 2018 SE Tech to enable Android Auto access and successfully paired my mobile phone over Bluetooth, providing audio services to my phone. Nevertheless, I am unable to establish a WiFi connection. I have attempted to adhere to the Android Auto connection guidelines within the application, consulted Google Gemini, and reviewed YouTube tutorials for assistance, yet none have advanced my progress. I can access the AA screen and several application logos, but upon selection, they attempt to open and then abruptly cease functioning due to a lack of connection. Does anyone else experience such issues or, preferably, a potential solution? Thank you
Motoman
To utilise the Aftermarket box for wireless Android Auto, first pair your phone with the box via Bluetooth. Subsequently, it will automatically connect to the Aftermarket box's Wi-Fi, launching and connecting Android Auto without the need for manual Wi-Fi connection. Upon the initiation of the AA menu screen, you will have the freedom to proceed as desired. If you are able to reach that stage but cannot initiate an application such as Spotify or Google Maps, I recommend verifying that the permissions on your phone permit autostart; otherwise, the application will function when manually activated, but Android Auto will be unable to launch it autonomously. TechWhiz
Greetings and thank you for your reply. Regrettably, I have undergone that surgery numerous times without success. My phone is erroneously identifying both the new screen and 'Range Rover Evoque' as linked devices, leaving me uncertain on which to utilise; furthermore, WiFi connectivity is not established on either device. Furthermore, the new screen is equipped with two USB cables that are now stored in the glove compartment, leaving me uncertain whether to utilise one of these or the vehicle's USB for a wired connection; nonetheless, they remain unresponsive. I have purchased a WiFi dongle that likewise fails to connect to the head unit. Frustration!
Motoman
If your aftermarket head unit is compatible with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, it should have been equipped with a wireless antenna upon installation. They additionally possess a USB port for updates and wired AA connectivity. Disregard the automobile USB that serves solely to charge your phone. A WiFi dongle is unnecessary if your head unit is equipped with WiFi, as this may complicate matters further. My phone successfully connects via Bluetooth to both the car (RR Evoque) and the aftermarket head unit simultaneously without issue. Wireless AA necessitates the utilisation of Bluetooth for initial discovery, and pairing is required when prompted. When AA on your phone detects a wireless head unit, it thereafter attempts to connect to the WiFi automatically. To activate wireless Android Auto on your phone, you must enable it in the developer options.
alpaco45
Ensure the head unit's WiFi is configured in "Client" mode rather than "Hotspot" mode. Subsequently, activate Bluetooth, mobile data, and "Wireless Android Auto" on your phone. If that is unsuccessful, remove the phone from the head unit and from your vehicle's list in Android Auto, then re-establish the connection from the beginning. The connection is unreliable and occasionally requires a complete reset.
TechWhiz
Thank you both; I will attempt it once more and see the outcome.
TechWhiz
By the way, how can I verify or modify the state of the 'Client' mode?
Motoman
While they vary slightly, you should find a settings option or a similar feature within your Aftermarket box; I anticipate it will be included there.
TechWhiz
Regrettably, despite numerous additional efforts, I have made no progress. I reached the point when the ZLink app requested my phone's password, which I entered, but it failed to verify owing to a connection issue. Extremely exasperating. I am starting to suspect that the application is the issue.
