Linkage of time

For a timing chain, $1,800 is rather a lot to pay.
I just got my unit set up and am running a 1 series at the moment. Offering a simple chain change for £650 (not broken, just loud).
I understand that larger establishments naturally have higher operating costs, etc., but £1800 seems excessive.

A technician informed me it was a malfunctioning ingector, but I'm not an expert on BMWs.
Until the engine reaches around 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, mine makes a horrible knocking noise when cold, as if I rev to about 1500 after sitting for 10 minutes.
