Assistance is required with code 2885.

My 2009 R56 vehicle has had several modifications, with the most recent one resulting in a 2885 error number. I often use this website to look for solutions to problems, since there is no need to ask queries that have already been addressed. I am perplexed by the fact that when I switch off the vehicle and then start it again, the level of boost increases until it reaches 1.4 bar, but then decreases. Switch off the automobile, then resume it. The car will briefly reach a speed of 1.4, but then quickly decrease again. I recently replaced the blow off valve, but, it had no discernible impact. What is the next step for me? I purchased the automobile in its non-operational state. I have completed tasks such as replacing chains, coils, and plugs, as well as installing a BOV and addressing other minor issues.

The reason for the recurring issue is that when the switch is turned off, it resets the limp mode but still stores the error code. This occurs when the map sensor pressure does not match the required pressure known by the engine control unit (ECU), either being too high or too low. To address this, it is necessary to conduct a smoke test on all components, including the PCV valve pipe. If the PCV valve in the rocker cover is split, it can affect the boost. Another common problem is the diverter valve on the side of the turbo compressor. I do not recommend using BOV valves as their springs can weaken over time and most are of poor quality. It is better to use a standard diverter valve. Interestingly, using a BOV valve does not affect the power output of the engine with stock internals; it only adds another potential point of failure. Given that these engines operate at the limits of their capabilities, any factor that affects the air-fuel ratio (AFR) must function correctly.

I mistakenly believed that the BOV and Diverter were identical. Upon further research, I have identified the component in question as a diverter valve. Adapter not available. Executing the smoke test seems to be rather straightforward. Is it considered unconventional to use a smoke bomb, such as the kind commonly available at 4th of July vendors, as a means of generating smoke? It seems to be a very simple method for producing smoke.

Smoke serves as a useful tool for targeted applications. In my case, I utilise smoke to test valve seats by introducing it through a spark plug hole with all four valves closed. Additionally, I employ the built-in compressor of the smoke machine to conduct pressure tests on components such as vacuum lines. This equipment has proven to be invaluable in diagnosing and addressing various faults. It is an essential tool for anyone working on automobiles. For instance, it enables me to test the exhau

I concur with your observation, badgx. I have discovered several minuscule fissures in various plastic components, little hoses, and apparently intact rocker cover gaskets. The emission of smoke justifies its significance and value.

These more recent automobiles are quite sensitive when it comes to vacuum leaks, to put it mildly.

The more advanced a car is, the more likely it is that car manufacturers are using reusable plastic materials that have a lifespan of around 10 years before they start deteriorating. This approach was previously adopted by Renault, which faced issues with wiring. For car technicians, a major concern arises when they accidentally come into contact with a plastic pipe in the engine bay, as it can become brittle over time and with exposure to heat. This can result in the pipe breaking and spraying hot coolant. It is important to consider whether battery-powered cars will have similar issues with poor plastic insulation after 10 years, potentially leading to thermal meltdowns. I have a friend who works in the fire department. According to him, when an electric vehicle catches fire due to battery difficulties, it might take several days for the fire to extinguish itself. Additionally, he said that accidents involving these large battery-powered cars can be more severe compared to petrol cars, mostly due to their increased bulk.

I agree with you on the issue of plastic parts in automobiles. This is mostly driven by recycling objectives and the EU directive on reuse. However, there is another factor that affects the lifespan of autos. As you have said in previous articles, after the vehicle surpasses the manufacturer's guarantee term, their primary concern is to encourage the purchase of a new car and disregard the fact that the current car is still in fine condition. Could you perhaps explain the rationale for this approach?

I am aware of reports stating that flames may take several days to extinguish, which is very alarming to be honest. I really hope that the insulation remains intact for a longer period of time. Given the high voltage present in such situations, I have no intention of being present underneath such automobiles.

Another issue concerning electric vehicles is the limited availability of authorised repair technicians. Many garages may face difficulties in finding adequately trained professionals due to the high costs involved. Additionally, main dealers often withhold crucial information to compel customers to seek their services. However, given the increasing number of electric cars on the road, the current number of main dealers may not be sufficient to handle the demand.
