EPB Service Mode - 2016 Evoque SE Tech - Instruction Manual

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am experiencing significant difficulties with the procedures and videos I have encountered for activating the electric parking brake into service mode to facilitate the replacement of the discs and pads. I have attempted the solutions suggested here and in various YouTube videos, nevertheless I have not achieved any success.

I have attempted the procedure of holding the button and accelerator while turning the system off and on; nevertheless, I consistently receive an EPB error after approximately 30 seconds. Furthermore, as soon as I cease operation and switch it off, the brake engages automatically.

Has anyone achieved success with this, or does anyone with the same model own a viable answer, or is it really an online myth?

I appreciate any assistance you can provide in advance.

It is effective; I have utilised it several times to halt the process. There is a skill involved, as I initially encountered difficulties. I was surprised to discover that the Parking Brake functions as both a pull and a push lever, as I had never previously pushed it.

Thank you for your reply! I attempted that earlier today, or at least to the best of my understanding. However, I consistently observe that the instructions appear to be designed for automatic transmissions, whereas mine is a manual. Do you believe that would significantly alter the situation? I will attempt it once more nonetheless.

Indeed, the absence of "Park" on the gearbox is likely the reason for your difficulties. It is a sequenced series of events, and that method will likely be significant for this procedure.

An OBD2 dongle will certainly function, however I am uncertain if there exists a process for the manual that does not involve using "Park"; however, someone may has that knowledge.

Do you possess the Evoque Service Manual for the 2015 model year? I have not encountered one for the 2016 model year. If a handbook exists, the process will be included therein.

The MY20 Service Manual indeed addresses manual gearboxes, as it references "Neutral."

CAUTIONS: The electric park brake (EPB) switch's apply/release function is disabled in this mode (to ensure technician safety), thus do not operate the vehicle under these conditions. Noncompliance with this directive may result in personal injury.
This process necessitates that the car is in either the Park or Neutral position, the ignition is activated (the engine must be off), and the parking brake system is disengaged.
Upon installation of the rear brake pads or brake discs, the Service Mode must be deactivated.
This process facilitates the release of the parking brake during the removal and installation of replacement rear brake pads or brake discs.

1. Depress and maintain the parking brake switch in the disengaged position.
2. Pause for one second.
3. Depress and maintain the accelerator pedal in the fully open throttle position.
4. Wait one second.
5. Turn the ignition OFF and then ON immediately.
NOTE: An audible signal will indicate that the parking brake has been disengaged in Service Mode.
6. Depress the accelerator pedal and return the parking brake switch to the neutral position.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.
2. Pause for one second.
3. Depress and maintain the accelerator pedal in the fully open throttle position.

Thank you for your appreciation. I have attempted 5 or 6 times, meticulously adhering to the directions, but to no avail. The following message appears, and when I turn off the ignition, the brake is immediately reapplied.

It appears that you have accurately commanded the parking brake servos to retract, but they are unable to do so. Are you certain that there is no problem with the callipers?

I presume you lack an OBD2 device for diagnosing DTCs and servicing, as you would have utilised it otherwise. If you refer to the earlier part of the thread I mentioned, you will find an individual detailing their approach to replacing the pads with the battery disconnected to avoid brake engagement. Consider attempting that.
